WordPress has now become a world leader when it comes to building websites even for people who know nothing about coding.

They boast 28% of the internet is powered by WordPress and it is no longer limited to blog roles.

A vast number of available themes and plugins allow you to create websites that surpass any website professional creative type business out there.

4 Steps on How to Build a Website in WordPress

1- Find a WordPress Hosting Platform

You can go directly to the WordPress site itself where they have a number of plans to choose from but the support is limited and the cost per site you host add up quickly.

My #1 recommended site to host a WordPress site is at Wealthy Affiliate.

Now don’t get your knickers in a twist…I know the name sounds a bit scammy but I assure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Click Here for my review about Wealthy Affiliate

Wealthy Affiliate (WA) was created by a blogger and a computer engineer 11 years ago. It may have started as a simple site to help people learn how to become affiliate marketers but it has now evolved to be so much more.

Unlike other WordPress hosting sites, WA provides a personal touch unrivaled by any other web-hosting site out there.

You can go to web-hosting sites like Wix or GoDaddy but don’t be fooled by their front page pricing as you will be expected to buy into a number of up sales to get a site look half decent.

WA also has 11 years of training content available and thousands of experienced WordPress users to help you along your journey to building your website.

2-Choose your Domain

Before you can host a site you will need a Domain Name.

This site’s domain name is

A Domain Name provides you with a unique address for your site that nobody else can copy.

I buy all my domains from Site Domains  which is also provided through Wealthy Affiliate. You can also purchase a Domain Name through Sites like GoDaddy.

3-Choose Your Theme

If you are a beginner it can be a little overwhelming on what theme to choose.

You don’t need to hesitate too much as you can change your theme at any time.

It is recommended to choose a simple theme to learn the ropes.

Once you have gone through the learning curve then you can explore themes with increased complexity.

This again is another advantage of Wealthy Affiliate.

There newbie training available at Wealthy Affiliate gets you setup using step by step instructions.

They provide you all the training you need to get a WordPress website up and running in minutes.

If you are not a newbie to setting up websites then it is suggested you choose a theme that already has a number of features already built into your theme.

Staying with a basic theme and adding plugins to create a rich site will cost you on loading speeds. Nobody likes a slow loading website.

Nobody likes a slow loading website.

So choose a theme that best suits the type of website you want to build.

Most themes fall into 4 categories which can be described as blogs, portfolios, online stores or general display websites.

4-Publish Your WordPress Website

Once you have your domain name linked to your WordPress website then all you need to do is create content to put on your website and publish it to the world wide web.

Your chosen web hosting site will make your site available for viewing by anybody searching on the internet.

Now it is your job to create SEO rich content and will show your site to people’s searches or you can promote your site through social media or pay per click traffic.

If some of the search engine or social media stuff scares you or sounds all overwhelming do not fret.

Again Wealthy Affiliate will walk you through everything there is to know about getting your site seen.

Did I mention it is free to join where you can take advantage of their free training and support.

There is no magic or secret formula to getting free traffic to your website.

Only hard work, knowing what works and persistence will offer you the ability to be successful online.

I’ve written before how I searched for something like  Wealthy Affiliate for years. It may not have a catchy web-hosting name but I too found it to be the best web-hosting and online marketing support platform out there. I wrote about how speculated how bloggers made an online income. You can read more by clicking here.

It is a wonderful feeling to see how the teachings at Wealthy Affiliate will put your website on the first pages of a search engine like Google.

Paul, this is a well-detailed blog about how to build a WordPress website. If I were to try building a website on my own I now know where to go and succeed. I know I could not do it on my own. The suggested Wealthy Affiliate site you describe sounds like the type of support I need to succeed. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful resource.

Nice write up! I laughed a bit at the “I know that sounds a bit spammy” comment. That’s something I have thought, myself on occasion. The name strikes me as a bit… unfortunate, as it might turn some people off.

Truthfully, though, I have found Wealthy Affiliate to be pretty amazing, both in terms of training and support. I haven’t compared prices for hosting and such elsewhere, but I am told that it is generally quite a bit more expensive at other web-hosting sites.

On that topic, you mention buying domain names through Site Domains– which I did– or other sites like Go Daddy. Again, I have no real experience with Go Daddy, but I have heard tales of a rather exorbitant pricing on some domain names… Have you encountered that?

Overall, I think your suggestions are right on. I have had absolutely no complaints using Wealthy A and I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy building a site can be.

    • Paul says:

The upfront prices advertised at sites like GoDaddy look reasonable until you actually want to purchase a domain name that will actually meet your needs. Then you have your hosting services that again look rather cheap but turns out only to be for 1 website, then you have to pay more for SEO and things like SSL. Wealthy Affiliate web-hosting has a flat monthly rate where you can host 25 websites and each site includes SSL and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

    Hey there,

Thanks for the 411 on how to start a WordPress Website. I already know how to create a Website but a friend wants the info as well. I do not have the time to explain all of this to her so i am just going to forward the link.
Simplest explanation I have seen so far so thank you for that.
Your Website looks great! Did you create it at Wealthy Affiliate also?
