How to Start a Business While Working Full Time

How to Start a Business While Working Full Time Banner

I believe that we all think about starting a business at one point or another in our lives.

Most people will fail to start a business because they are not aware of the first step required.

The first step being "Taking the First Step!"

Successful entrepreneurs didn't succeed because they waited for a profitable business to fall into their laps, well...most anyway.

They take the initiative to go out on a limb and go for it.

Is your day job providing you with too much security to let you go for it?

Then there are ways to get into the entrepreneurial world by transitioning into an online business.

Today I want to explain the 5 steps on how you can start an online business while working full time.

1- Get Your Training

If you continue full time, you will want to have the right training and support, so you don't waste any of your precious free time.

I've seen so many people try to start an online business on their own only to fail because they didn't have the right training and support.

They fail because they try one type of method promised to work quickly by one online guru, when that doesn't work they switch to another guru, to another.

Trust me, I not only seen it, but I've also been there. It was over 12 years ago now that I started my search on how to start an online business only to have wasted years with dead-end promises until 2 1/2 years ago I found Wealthy Affiliate.

I landed on a website similar to this one, still searching for different ways to earn extra income, checking if what I was currently interested was a scam, which it was.

Then this guy, John explained how he went through the same thing for years until he found Wealthy Affiliate through a similar blog.

The only thing I can suggest is to check Wealthy Affiliate out, you can sign up for free without providing any credit information, so you don't have to worry about canceling your account before a specific date before being billed.

As you go through your training, you will be asked to decide on a niche for your online business.

2- Choose Your Niche

Some people will find this to be a natural step, others will struggle to find a niche topic that they know but don't necessarily want to write about it, or they like something but don't know enough about it.

The important thing they will tell you is not to worry about what niche you are going to start with.

Just pick something you are interested in, if you don't know much about the topic, then you can write about your journey learning about it.

In the end, it is better to pick a niche topic that interests you so you can enjoy writing about it.

3- Build Your Website

Once you have chosen your niche, you will need to purchase a domain name, and then you can build your website.

This is the easiest part.

Well easy for Wealthy Affiliate members as they have everything you need to start your online business. You can buy your domain name through their services at competitive rates, and then host up to 50 websites. That is right up to 50 websites when you're a premium member who brings the cost down to less than $1 /month for each site hosted.

You will be shown step by step on how to start by using their free websites; you get 2 free websites as a free member.

Once you have your domain name registered and website built, then you need to write your content.

4- Write Your Content

This step is usually the hardest part of the process.

Once you master how to build your website, you will need to add content to your site to ensure you get people to visit your website.

You will learn how to write content to please those that land on your site through search engines like Google and Bing or whether you get visitors through social media sites or pay-per-click advertising.

If you are relying on search engines, then you will need to write at least 3 blogs of 1000 to 2000 words per week.

You can use social media but you will need to have constant interactions with your followers, and you need to still provide them with content they will find rewarding to visit.

Pay-Per-Click can get quite expensive and does take practice to master to ensure you get a more massive payout compared to what you are paying in. There are members at Wealthy Affiliate that will spend $20,000/ month but have gross incomes over $100,000 / month leaving them with a profit of $80,000 per month. It takes practice! I'm no master at the PPC method...yet!

5- Monetize Your Site

To consider your website(s) part of a business, you will need to make money.

As this site is part of my business, it too has to make me money.

So how am I making money with this blog you may ask.

That would be a good question, in many cases, I don't make any money from this blog. If I'm lucky, I may make money from about 2-3% of the visitors to this blog.

In other words only if I get 100 people to read this blog will I make money from 2 or 3 of those 100 people.

It may sound like a lot of work to make so little.

That is where you will learn the power of cumulative effect.

Here is an example:

If I were to get 100 people to visit this blog today, I might make money form 2 to 3 of those people...today. Tomorrow another 2 to 3, the day after 2 to 3. Then you also have to remember that this site has many more blogs. For example, let's say I have 100 blogs on this site if I'm lucky I get 2 to 3 people for each blog that buys something, i.e., service or product. That means I can have 200 to 300 people purchase something from my site. Evry couple of days I add another blog, and another and another. As I write more, I get more visitors, my site ranks better, and my daily visits can increase into the thousands, and it just snowballs from there.

There are different ways to make money from your website. I mentioned selling something like a product or service, but one of the easiest ways is through affiliate marketing.

With affiliate marketing all you need to do is refer someone to buy a product or services and if they do buy you get a commission. There are thousands of companies available for any niche where you can become an affiliate.

So here is a quick recap of what you need to do now to start your online business while keeping your full-time job.
