You may have made a new year resolution to start an online business. Then you come to the realization that you don’t have any extra money to start an online business.
Keep in mind that it will take some more work and time for a free site to succeed compared to those that invest money into their business.
How do I Start an Online Business with No Money?
Here is your 4 step quick guide while avoiding online business scams:
Create a FREE website.
Go to Wealthy Affiliate (WA), create a free account and start with their training. You will receive teaching from Wealthy Affiliate on how you can earn an income online. You will learn as they take you through a step by step tutorial on how to create 1 of your 2 free sites available for free.
Wealthy Affiliate is the best place that you can find anywhere on the internet where you will not be scammed out of hard earned money. You sign up for free, no credit card information required, no money needed.
You can host 2 free websites for as long as you want. You will have the choice to upgrade to a Premium membership that provides a whole lot more tools and support, but you don’t have to go premium to keep and manage your free sites.
Focus your website on one niche topic.
A niche can be a topic, a service or a product, it can be anything that you are passionate about.
Try to keep your niche as specific as possible. Narrow your niche down to one subgroup if it is a broad topic or product.
An example of this could be that you are interested in Sunglasses. Newbies to the online and marketing business would think that is a fairly specific topic but it is actually quite broad once you start digging into it.
Trust me when I say I’ve been there done that.
Without doing any research on this product I can tell that you will find that there are sub-categories such as polarized and non-polarized, various shading options for the lens. frames made from metal, plastic, wood and who knows what else.
Before you know it you will have a list of categories the length of your arm. Having a broad niche with a long list of categories will make it hard for you as an independent, small online business with no money to compete with big Sunglass shops that pour money into building content into their site and advertising to bring traffic to their website.
The only way a free website can attract people to find you on the internet is to specialize in a very narrow portion of a product. In the example of the sunglasses niche. You can become an expert on wood frame sunglasses. It is a smaller market
It is a smaller market and you can pick from what is called the low lying fruit. The big retail companies focus mainly on the big more popular markets and are not concerned about a few specialty niche markets.
Another example of this in real life would be the example of shopping at a store like Walmart. They have sunglasses from low cost to some mid-higher range. They know that the majority of sales for sunglasses fall within that range.
There still exists a market in the high-end glasses but it is too difficult for their model to maintain an ongoing increase in profits in that market. For them to maintain the high-end inventory and a prestigious environment to sell those products will not provide them the same Return On Investment (ROI).
That is where you come in to swoop in and catch those low lying fruit they leave aside.
That brings you to step 3 of the online business model using Affiliate Marketing.
Sign up to Affiliate Programs
In step 1 you created your website foundation, in step 2 you focused on a narrow niche. In step 2 you would also create content in relation to that niche. You write blogs or reviews in detail for that specific niche. Adding content to your website is an important step to being accepted by affiliate programs.
Now you may be asking, What is an affiliate program?
Affiliate programs can be described as commission based sales. Where you review a product or service, you direct people to that product or service’s website and you earn a commission from that company.
There are thousands if not millions of affiliate programs. Practically every product or service out there has an affiliate program. Sometimes the company will run the program directly or they contract it out to an agency to manage it. To these companies, affiliate marketing is anther form of advertising but with a higher level of return on investment.
To these companies, affiliate marketing is another form of advertising but with a higher level of return on investment. Customers are more inclined to buy something if they reviewed the information and were referred by a source they trust…that will be you!
Most affiliate programs only pay you if they make a final sale. So advertising on tv, in the papers or on the internet, the companies know people are seeing their ads but there is no guarantee they will make a sale even though they spent $$ on advertising fees.
With affiliate marketing, companies already made the sale, so they have no qualms in paying affiliates a percentage of that sale. Some companies rely solely on online affiliate marketers like you.
So now you have created a niche specific website, created a low lying fruit keyword rich content website and have some affiliate links on your site.
Now the search engines like Google and Bing will start sending people to your site. It does take some time for search engines to trust your site, 3 to 6 months in general if you blog frequently and engage with your site visitors. It also takes original and frequent additions of content to your site.
Once you have mastered how to get your website showing on the first page of search results you will notice the amount of traffic to your site increase dramatically. That is when you can start tweaking your site’s content to decrease bounce rates, meaning people get to your site, don’t like what they see and hit the back button…you don’t want that. You also want to increase the length of time people stay on your site, visit other pages then eventually the ultimate goal to click on one of your affiliate links where you have the potential to earn a commission.
You also want to increase the length of time people stay on your site. You want them to visit other pages and then eventually the ultimate goal is to have them click on one of your affiliate links where you have the potential to earn a commission.
Once you have accomplished the goal of receiving search engine traffic you can also fine tune your social media and guest blogging.
All these steps do take time and work.
But, even if you never had any marketing background, you can learn how to do this online business thing.
I can tell you that once you have made that first sale you will never look back.
Once you master one successful site all you need to do is repeat the same for 1, 2, 3 or more websites to multiply your income.
