Legit work from home opportunities still do exist in this day and age.
You only need to know where to find them and avoid online scams.
First, let's start with listing my top recommended opportunities for working from home.
I will follow with describing what type of home based work you need to avoid.
If you are new to online business then affiliate marketing is probably the easiest possible way to earn an income online.
Simply put, affiliate marketing is a way you can get paid for referring people to a service or product.
In the real world it can be compared to a mortgage broker or someone that works in a retail store.
In the example of a mortgage broker, they provide information and options of a number of banks or mortgage holder company. When you decide to sign-up to one of the brokers recommended banks then the broker gets paid a commission of some sort. The commission may be a flat rate or a percentage of the mortgage itself.
The example of someone in a retail store, or maybe more prominent seen at a car dealer. The sales person will get paid a commission for each sale they make. Again it could be a flat rate per item sold or a percentage of the sale. So the bigger the price tag on an item the more the sales person will make.
Affiliate marketing pretty much works the same way. If you refer someone to a service or to a product, and that person decides they will buy, then you can earn a commission.
The most common way people manage an affiliate marketing business from home is over the internet by blogging or publishing videos online.
Some people will solely build their online business by using social media sites. Although many have succeeded affiliate marketing this way it is not the preferred way to ensure a long term viable business.
Social media sites come and go, and they can change their rules or close your account with the snap of the fingers.
It is suggested you register your own website domain name and build your own website.
It's not as hard to do as you may think. Heck, if I can do it anybody can!
I was not able to do it on my own though. I had lots of help and still get help from an amazing training platform where you can register a domain name, build a website and get ongoing support to name a few services they provide.
The training platform is called Wealthy Affiliate. If you think that blogging or making videos to possibly get paid a commission then I suggest you try out there free, no credit required subscription and get your online business started today.
You can also buy your domain and host your site at places like Wix or GoDaddy but you will be on your own trying to build your website and getting people to your site. You will also be paying a whole lot more per site than you would at Wealthy Affiliate.
This lines up well with the previous opportunity that provides training and experience needed.
You can go out and get a degree or certification in website design, development, and management but there really isn't any better way to gain the real life experience of managing your own affiliate website(s).
I am suggesting this as the second top work from home opportunity as the experience I personally gained from creating affiliate sites has brought me to designing sites for other people.
It just seemed to be a natural progression. Once people noticed my websites they would be asking if I can create and manage websites for them.
Again, that is where the training from Wealthy Affiliate has created new opportunities for me.
I was able to purchase domain names for my new clients and host them all at Wealthy Affiliate. I can control various levels of access to their sites, where it can be as limited as adding blogs, to full editing control.
Depending on your speed and ability you can charge a flat rate to create the website foundation, usually in the thousands of dollars. I'm fairly new and the sites I've created are fairly basic so I would only charge around $2000 for a basic website foundation.
Then depending on the how big they want to grow their site, how often it needs updating, number of add-ons, security and so on, you can charge anywhere from $50 to $500/month or more per month.
This one can be a little difficult if you have a hard time using various design software. You will need to have at least a basic understanding of how the software like Adobe Photoshop or Illustration works. If not, and you still want to pursue this line of online business then I suggest you start learning how to use it now or take a course.
You will also need to have a n eye for art and or what is trending online so you can offer designs that people will want.
Some people can be really good at using the software but not that good of an artist or just don't have an eye for what looks good online.
Others may be awesome artists but have no clue how to use the software to get them ready for websites.
All that should not deter you from pursuing this option.
How many people do you know are fluent with art and using advanced computer software from Adobe?
Not that many I am sure. There are those that take courses and get certifications, diplomas, or degrees in this field, but isn't the only way you can make it in this business.
Sometimes the self taught show a higher level of originality than those with a formal education.
I would compare it to someone that gets a degree in music compared to somebody that picks up and instrument and learns on their own. You will see 2 completely different styles. I am not here to judge if one is better than the other but I believe that there is room for both and both have a specific role in their own way.
All this to say, if you don't have any formal education with graphic designing don't let that be a reason for you not to pursue this option.
There are also many people online that just don't have the time to create any type of original graphic designs for their site. They may only want a simple little icon or image for their site and prefer to spend a few bucks to someone to create than take the time to do themselves.
Their are all kinds of opportunities in this field.
As with the others listed above it is still important to create your own website and learn how you can monetize your site.
Once again my top pick is Wealthy Affiliate!
Opening online stores has increased exponentially over the past couple of years.
Shopify appears to be the new leader when it comes to a platform that allows you to create an online store /eCommerce.
Shopify and their stocks just keep growing. They offer a platform that allows for setting up an online store with integration with other great online forces like Amazon and Facebook. They provide ready made store themes so you only need to insert items you want to sell. You don't even need to have your own product, you can sell stuff from other companies through the Shopify platform.
The only thing to watch out with Shopify is the fees they charge above the basic monthly plans. Some of the integration with various companies or social media my have added fees or they take a percentage per sale.
There are other options where you don't need to pay a monthly fee and percentage.
If you have your own product, you can just open your own website and use some free plugins available to WordPress websites.
The free plugins will probably work for anybody that has a small business and a limited volume.
If you are wanting to sell higher volumes, then you may need a premium plugin for your WordPress website but will still be much less than a platform like Shopify.
While I am a member of Wealthy Affiliate, I am building a website where I am selling goalie face masks. It only costs me $13/year for my domain name registry, along with my yearly membership fee that includes the hosting to all my websites.
I have setup websites for others on Wix or GoDaddy that offer online store /eCommerce features but they all have added costs for hosting and for the online store Add-Ons, and a number of other plugins needed for these Add-Ons to work. You will be spending hundreds of dollars per month.

This time I won't be providing a short list as there are really no way of saying one scam is better (worse?) than the other.
Instead I will list the following signs that should bring up red flags for you to avoid scams.
You may already know all the signs listed above but sometimes we all need a reminder of what to look out for when we are at vulnerable state.

My preferred work from home opportunities are mostly online based businesses.
I do have a list (Click Here for list) of many more options that do not require you to work online.
Although there are options not requiring you to work online, I do show how it can be advantageous to have an online presence for all of these work form home businesses.
Even that list is a small taste of what businesses or jobs you can do from home today.
I will continue to add new opportunities over time and will list scams to avoid.
Now that you have a little more information to help you along your journey I hope you take this time to make a decision.
The decision to start something that is new to you and may scare you.
Remember that you don't have to be great to start but need to start to be great!

My online journey started in 2008 when I was tired of working for somebody else. I searched the internet for years trying to find out how to make a living from home with an online business. In 2015 I finally found the information and support from a website just like this one
